Imilac was known by the Incas prior to documentation in 1822. Some pieces had been excavated and transported hundreds of kilometers before that time (See Salta meteorite). In 1877, four men transported a 191 kg Imilac mass 200 kilometers to Antifagasta with only a hand cart; an amazing journey accomplished in only 100 days.
