A shower of stones fell after a huge bolide was seen. Meteorites were strewn across an area of almost 500 square kilometers. To date more than 3000 kg of this precious material has been
recovered. Allende is probably the most researched meteorites ever because of its chemical and petrologic properties and abundance of available material. It contains large Calcium-aluminum rich inclusions (CAI) displayed as irregular white splotches in which presolar material is relatively common. Presolar grains found in Allende have been dated at 4.568 billion years old, older than our solar system. In addition some complex carbon compounds have been reported such as fullerene (C60 and C70), fulleranes (C60HX), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzofluoranthene and corennulene.
