Carbonaceous Chondrite

This specimen features a triangular fragment with four sides, each exhibiting visible chondrules embedded in its primordial matrix. Allende meteorites are considered essential additions to any collection. This 2 gram piece is a genuine Allende, classified as a carbonaceous chondrite of the Vigarano type, petrological type 3.

A large bolide caused a shower of stones, scattering meteorites over nearly 500 square kilometers of Northern Mexico. In 1969, the Smithsonian Institute sent teams of researchers to find and recover as many stones as possible. Estimated known weight is 3000 kg of material has been recovered. Provinding for one of the most studies meteorites in history. Some important discoveries found in carbonaceous meteorites are the calcium-aluminum rich inclusions (CAIs) with common pre-solar grains dating back 4.568 billion years—predating our solar system. Complex carbon compounds, including fullerenes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, have also been found.
