Natural surface Mundrabilla specimen with character. The surface examples exhibit the “desert varnish” from sun, wind and sand leaving a clean patina. The soil-contact surface is fused with Aussie red soil from the Great Nullabor Plains, Western Australia. The samples character is unique to Mundrabilla: some described them as “knuckles.” They are distinguishable from other iron meteorites for their knobby shape.

The two largest masses, 11 ton and 5 ton, were found in 1966. Another 1640 kg mass was found in 1979. Many smaller individuals have been recovered by rabbit hunters and meteorite seekers. The meteorites are chemically and structurally anomalous. Cross-sections exhibit an unusual sulfide-silicate distribution pattern.
