The Canyon Diablo meteorite offered here is what we refer to as a “Rim Specimen.” This specimen is presented exactly as it was found, in its natural state. Iron meteorites such as this one are often shaped by the force of their impact, and this specimen exhibits characteristics reportedly found on the rim of the crater.
Assured this specimen was not collected from private property, we know these meteorites have been recovered for hundreds of years in the area. The appearance of the meteorite suggests that it may have spalled off a larger mass, as indicated by its sharp edges and the absence of debris on its surface. The clarity of the surface and the sharpness of the edges are notable features of this piece.
Shocked samples of Canyon Diablo have been reported with carbonados. Though we do not observe any graphite or diamonds in this specimen with the naked eye. Despite this, it remains an intriguing example of meteorite iron that would be a valuable addition to any collection.
The meteorite is housed in a 90 x 90 mm membrane frame for safe display and handling. Additionally, it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity to verify its origin and genuineness.
